Final Cut Pro X preparation for Prores 4444 / fcpxml workflow

1st, Flattening the timeline.

  1. Duplicate your timeline, rename it as “project name to color”

  2. Delete all the text, Graphics, adjustment layers, audios.

  3. move all video clips to video track 1.

2nd, Do you have transitions?

  1. If you have fade to blacks, remove them and make a conform note.

  2. If you have cross dissolves, swipe, or other special transitions, You can keep them, but duplicate the clips with handles, and put them at the end of the timeline in case you need to rebuild them after color.

3rd, We need the milky look.

If you shot with RAW footage but picture look contrasty, we need to make sure the color space is set as Log instead of Rec.709.

If you shot with Arri Alexa:

Select a clip, then go to the Inspector and select Info > Settings

In the Log Processing tab, check if a LUT has been applied. If a LUT has been applied and you want to remove it, just set Log processing back to None.

If you shot with RED:

Select a clip, then go to the Inspector and select Info > Settings > Modify RED RAW Settings.

Change the Color Space into REDWideGamutRGB, and Gamma into Log 3G10, leave rest the same.

4th, Export Prores 4444 file

5th, Export the fcpxml file.

please chose fcpxml version 1.10 or under for the compatibility.
